The Kings Award was presented to Life-saving volunteers of Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat for Voluntary Service. This shines light on the fantastic work of voluntary groups and is the highest award given to local voluntary groups.
Lord-Lieutenant Susie Sheldon congratulated the volunteers and they were presented a unique glass award and certificate to the lifeboat's Stalwart, Mark Birch. Members of Isle of Wight Council and former Mayor were in attendance - alongside Joe Robertson, the newly elected MP for Isle of Wight East.
The team are 1 of the 262 independent lifeboat teams nationally who were in recipients of the award.
Joe Robertson said, "I welcome congratulating Sandown & Shanklin Independent Lifeboat for receiving the King's Award for Voluntary Service. I was very pleased to be able to attend the presentation by Lord Lieutenant Susie Sheldon and speak to some of the lifeboat volunteers. I want to extend a special thank you for all the work that you do!"
Life boat volunteers also enjoyed a Kings Award cake, and all members received special Kings Award badges in recognition of their individual contribution and service to the Community of The Bay and the Island.
