Joe Robertson MP Speaks Out Against Family Farm Tax on ITV Meridian.
On Thursday, Joe Robertson MP appeared on ITV Meridian's - The Last Word to address the controversial Family Farm Tax. Appearing alongside Dr Lauren Sullivan MP (Labour), Jess Brown-Fuller MP (Liberal Democrat), Joe criticised Labour MPs for their refusal to acknowledge the mistakes made by their Government, as they continue to push forward with this punitive tax. This is despite, farmers from all over the UK descending on Westminster mid week to peacefully protest the tax and highlight their concerns with their local MPs.
Robertson highlighted the detrimental impact this tax will have on family farms and rural economies, particularly in light of the recent withdrawal of winter fuel payments for most pensioners. He emphasised that, in the context of UK public finances, the Family Farm Tax is unlikely to generate significant revenue. Instead, it poses a serious threat to food security across the nation.
Joe Robertson said, "Labour keep mentioning the £500 million figure that could be raised through this. I don't see the figure necessarily that high, but even if it was, that is not the difference between some inflated figure that the new Labour Government wants to pretend the Conservatives left them by way of a black hole. This is a small amount of money that will make a significant impact for small family farms rather than big agribusiness. They need to reverse it and correct it"
Joe Robertson MP remains committed to advocating for policies that support family farms and ensure the sustainability of rural economies.
