Local resident and Ventnor businessmen Ed Blake has been selected as the Conservative candidate for the forthcoming Ventnor and St Lawrence by-election. Cllr Gary Peace stood down earlier in November for personal reasons leading to a by-election being called. The poll to elect a new Isle of Wight Councillor will take place on Thursday 21st December.
Ed runs his family business, Ventnor Haven Fishery, and is Chairman of Ventnor Rugby Football Club. He has lived in and around Ventnor his whole life and his family roots go back to 1830. Together with Joe Robertson, Conservative MP candidate for the new Isle of Wight East constituency, Ed has been knocking on doors and meeting residents and fellow business owners.
Ed said “I believe that Ventnor and St Lawrence needs a councillor who understands the priorities of local people, and who can be a strong and effective voice from day one. As Parliamentary candidate, Joe is already supporting our Town by promoting business and jobs, tackling anti-social behaviour and seeking options to reopen Undercliff Drive to vehicles. Together we will ensure that the voices of Ventnor and St Lawrence residents are heard loud and clear.”
