Joe Robertson visited the wonderful Wildheart Animal Sanctuary in Sandown after they rescued two brown bears, Benji and Balu.
Joe visited the Sanctuary, despite the rain, to see the incredible work they're doing, especially with the exciting rescue of two brown bears, Benji and Balu, who are currently awaiting a new home after being saved from harsh conditions in Azerbaijan.
Due to the incredible support from the local community, in October the Sanctuary announced that they had reached they £150,000 fundraising target to build a brand-new 3,500 quare metre habitat for Benji and Balu. The next step of the rescue mission is to secure a safe passage for them from Azerbaijan to the Sanctuary for which they need to raise a further £75,000 to cover all transportation costs for the over 3,000 mile journey. They were recently devastated to learn that sponsored flight had fallen through which has meant they have had to extend the fundraising target.
Joe Robertson said, "It was good to hear more about the educational work of the Sanctuary, raising awareness about animal welfare and conservation, and their future plans."
The Sanctuary offers school and group visits and can offer a qualified teacher for the learning and discovery sessions. The sessions include a discussion about one of the animals stories, how they came to live at the sanctuary, threats to their species in the wild and what the Sanctuary is doing to promote the special as part of their conservation work.
