Joe Robertson visited Aspire in Ryde to see their new accommodation currently being converted above their high street premises to help house women.
Aspire Ryde took over an iconic Grade 2 disused building on the at-risk register and turning it into a thriving community hub, supplying free food and life-affirming activities in an area of high deprivation. Recycling items such as bikes and pallets help reduce poverty and improves both mental and physical health. Aspire Ryde Community Hub offers regular workshops for people to learn new skills such as upcycling, and creative writing, with additional sessions supporting mental health and individuals suffering all forms of hardship.
Aspire Ryde also run community lunches run by the kitchen team four days a week in the Community Hall. Its open to everyone and a great place to meet new people and have a hot meal. The Kingdom Soft Play area is an inexpensive children's play area accompanying the low-cost café. Customers may also purchase 'suspended' drinks and snacks for homeless and vulnerable people.
Joe Robertson said, "My visit to Aspire in Ryde where I got to see some of the great work they do supporting people not just in Ryde but all over the Island. In particular, the new accommodation currently being converted above their new premises in the High Steet which will help house women who need a roof over their head."
Aspire Ryde accept clothing, furniture, bicycles and general bric-a-brac.
