Joe Robertson joined a larger delegation from the Council and the Environment Agency to inspect the continuing land movements around Ventnor. This is part of an effort to securing substantial funding from the Environment Agency due to this being the largest urban landslip in North West Europe.
This marks a significant step as Senior Management have now seen the situation for themselves and will integrate political leadership with local environmental management. In December 2023 residents of 20 homes on Leeson Road, Ventnor had to leave after a vast collapse and stress fractures had been detected in the surrounding coastal areas. Subsequently road and footpaths between Shanklin and Ventnor, on the south-east coast of the Island had bee closed. Many residents have been affected directly or indirectly.
Joe Robertson said, "It was good to see the Environment Agency taking the urban landslip seriously and strengthening our ability to advocate for national support and implement long last solutions to protect our residents and infrastructure".
