Joe Robertson MP for Isle of Wight East met with Island Line and South Western Railway.
Joe discussed the upcoming works Network Rail are undertaking on the Island Line - whereby from Friday 6th September to Sunday 6th October, the Island Line will be closed in its entirety from Ryde Pier Head to Shanklin. Network Rail and Island Line engineers intent to complete a large programme of vital maintenance which include work to repair and preserve the historic Ryde Pier structure. The pier will also close to trains on Friday 6th September 2024 and is expected to reopen in early May 2025.
The scheme is described by both companies as vital and the outcome will be positive for rail users for "future proofing the service"
Joe said:
"It is obviously disappointing that there will be further closures to the line but I am assured the work is essential and this should be the last of the major disruptions. Ryde Esplanade station is looking good after its refurbishment and I took the opportunity to press for better interconnection between the trains and ferries."
To maintain connections with ferry services, a minibus shuttle service will operate between Ryde Pier Head and Ryde Esplanade throughout the closure.
