Joe Robertson MP for Isle of Wight East today met with local farmers to listen to their concerns and gain a deeper understanding of the challenges impacting the farming community.
During the discussions, Joe emphasized the critical importance of supporting farmers, safeguarding the rural economy, and ensuring UK food security. He expressed his concerns about the proposed "family farmers tax," which risks placing undue pressure on farmers and threatening the viability of some family-run farms.
Speaking after the meeting, Joe said:
"The Government should be supporting our farmers and rural economy, not adding unnecessary strain through policies like the family farmers tax. Protecting our agricultural sector is essential for food security, our environment, and the long-term sustainability of our rural way of life."
To foster ongoing dialogue and collaboration, Joe and the farmers agreed to arrange regular meetings with the wider farming and rural community to ensure their voices are heard and their needs addressed.
Joe remains committed to advocating for policies that benefit the Isle of Wight’s agricultural sector and rural communities.
