Isle of Wight East MP, Joe Robertson, recently visited Ryde Academy to speak with students and engage them in a lively discussion about politics and current issues. After a brief introduction where he discussed the recent General Election, his journey into politics, and his role as an MP, the session transitioned into a dynamic question-and-answer format.
Year 10 students, aged 14-15, asked a wide range of thoughtful questions, touching on both local concerns, such as youth services and ferry transportation, as well as broader topics like the Falkland Islands. Joe was impressed by the students' curiosity and enthusiasm, and welcomed the opportunity to engage with such inquisitive young minds. They also delved into questions about potential changes to the House of Lords and the workings of coalition governments.
This visit to Ryde Academy followed a recent one to Brading Primary, and Joe hopes to continue visiting schools across the area. His aim is not only to spark interest in politics among young people but also to listen to their perspectives on both local and national issues.
