Joe Robertson attend a Local Government briefing in Parliament on Special Educational Needs and Disabilities provision.
Joe Robertson said, "The current system was put in place with good intentions but it is no longer fair and needs substantial reform. Similar schools can receive significantly more funding than others and many rural schools receive far less. We need to move away from seeing SEND as a separate system and take a more holistic and pragmatic view of young people's needs."
Data from County Councils Network, whose members cover about half the population of England, finds that 26 of England's 38 county and rural councils risk bankruptcy before 2027 if Send deficits are not addressed by central government.
Joe has recently met with the Chief Executive and Leader of the Isle of Wight Council to see how they can work together on the big issues in schools.
