Joe Robertson MP is pleased to announce the full reopening of Leeson Road, a significant development for the Ventnor and Shanklin areas, which have been severely affected since the road closure almost a year ago. "It has taken too long," said Robertson, acknowledging the prolonged disruption faced by the community.
In the immediate aftermath of the landslip, Robertson visited evacuated homeowners to hear their concerns and assist with their relocation to temporary accommodation. Over the past year, he has maintained ongoing conversations with these residents, addressing issues such as break-ins, property damage, and challenges with insurance companies.
"Praise must be given to the community for their resilience," Robertson stated. "It has been an incredibly anxious period for all." He also commended the local councillors—Rodney Downer, Chris Quirk, Michael Beston, and Ed Blake—for their unwavering support of their residents, as well as Ventnor Town Council and Mayor Steve Cooper for their proactive measures, including offering free parking on Saturdays.
Robertson has been in continuous discussions with the Environment Agency and the Isle of Wight Council to seek long-term management solutions for the Undercliff area and the entire East Wight coastal environment.
