Joe Robertson MP reminded the Government today in the Opposition Day Debate on Carer's Allowance that carers need greater support, direct financial help and also a better wrap-around community support.
This follow's on from Joe's Maiden Speech last week, whereby he set out his hopes to focus on meaningful reforms in health and social care as he draws on his previously experience from working with national nursing charity, Dementia UK. Joe mentioned that the best reform the NHS could have, is dealing with the crisis in social care which would relieve pressures on hospitals. Joe campaigned on social care and support in the community as a top priority and has already met with members of the charity sector, colleagues from Dementia UK and the Chief Executive of Mountbatten Hospice on the Island to talk about improvements in health and social care.
Joe Robertson said, "It is not just money carers need, they need much broader support, which gives them right, respite and relief to allow them to go address their own mental health concerns that have arisen from their job."
Joe goes on to mention the role of charities and community groups helping with mental health, respite care, and access to work and education.
