Joe Robertson recently met with Nigel Hartley, Chief Exec at Mountbatten to see discuss how he can support the Hospice as MP. Mountbatten is an independent charity which provides end of life care and bereavement support. Their focus is on the best quality of life and the team works closely with each person and their family members to create a unique care plan and will support you when returning home.
Mountbatten's hospice mission is to provide and to promote good care and support for those people living with, affected by death, dying and bereavement across the Isle of Wight.
Hospices receive less than a third of their funding from the Government but must compete with NHS for staff, putting them at disadvantage if they cannot match salaries.
Joe said:
"Hospices do not have the security of universal public funding, instead relying on a substantial amount of charitable income. From my time spent working for a health charity I have seen how challenging it is to deliver health and social care outside the NHS. I want to ensure that all providers are properly supported in order to deliver quality care wherever and whenever it is needed."
Joe Robertson has said he will work with the Hospice and put pressure on the government to ensure they meet the country's demands and increased pay costs for their staff. Joe Robertson worked for Dementia UK in his previous role and has seen first hand the issues surrounding funding for the social care workforce and the critical role hospices play in the healthcare system.
